6 Tips for Applying to College Scholarships

You've worked hard to find as many college scholarships as possible that apply to you. Now you need to get busy filling out and sending in those applications - a tedious process for sure! To take away some of your anxiety, we've put together some tips that you can use as a checklist for each scholarship application.

1. Start Early - Get a jump on your competition!

2. Follow Instructions - Mistakes are not tolerated!

3. Be Specific - The more info the better!

4. Proofread - Again, mistakes are not tolerated!

5. Keep it Neat - They cant give you a scholarship if they cant read your name!

6. Repeat - With as many scholarship applications as applicable!

1 - Start Early

Avoid the last minute rush. Start your application early enough to finish a couple weeks - or more - ahead of the deadline. You want to make sure you have adequate time to complete and perfect your application. Some scholarships require letters of recommendation from teachers as well, so be sure to allow enough time for them to write and return their letters to you so you can include them in your application submission.

2 - Follow Instructions

All scholarships requirements are different. Follow the instructions exactly and avoid the possibility that your application will be rejected in a preliminary check; and don't leave anything blank!

3 - Be Specific

Give abundant and accurate personal information, including hobbies, skills, academic merit, athletic ability, etc. Only apply to scholarships that apply to you.

4 - Proofread

Proofread your application several times throughout the process of filling it out to insure that you did not make any mistakes. Read it out loud and have more than one person read it as well.

5 - Keep it Neat

If they can't read it, they probably won't waste their time trying. If you print poorly, make several copies of the application form and practice getting all your information down correctly on the copies. When ready, copy your final information neatly on the original application form.

6 - Repeat

Once you finish your first application, start on the next one. Apply to as many as you can to give yourself more chances.

Use these 6 tips for applying to college scholarships and be assured that you will be sending out a top notch application. Whether you choose a traditional college or a local vocational college, the perfect scholarship application will push you closer to your dream.
