Fundraising Within The Church

A church, being a non-profit organization, must generally rely on fundraisers to raise money for specific events or purposes beyond that of their normal activities. These fundraisers aid in providing the opportunity for the church, or even one of its member groups, to attain the necessary amount of funds to reach their monetary goals. Based on how much money is needed, there are a variety of optional fundraising programs that can be implemented to achieve this goal.

One of the most popular fundraisers held by churches is a table top sale. During a table top sale fundraiser, the church will allow its members and others to sell their personal household items in the church's parish centre or car park space. The church usually requests those selling their goods to provide a monetary donation for the convenience of using the lot, or to provide a donation from money they made during the table top sale. Most, if not all, of the individual sellers joyfully oblige. Sometimes however, a table top sale may not be enough to raise the entire amount of needed money, so other options for fundraising are sought after.

Raffles are an extremely successful option for churches that wish to gain even more funding. During a raffle, tickets are sold and then drawn at a later date, awarding the lucky winners with prizes. Due to the chances of winning something more valuable than the price of a ticket, people are highly inclined to purchase them. The value of the prizes offered during a raffle does vary considerably. Sometimes a portion of the money raised during the raffle itself is awarded as a prize, but most of the time, donated items from local business establishments are awarded as prizes. This works very well in acquiring many donated items because the businesses are then able to claim the donations when they file their taxes.

However, businesses aren't the only ones who are able to claim a donation when participating in church fundraising activities. A fundraising alternative also used by churches, door to door sales, is one that allows potential customers to list part of their purchase as a donation. This entices the customer to actually buy more from the church's fundraising program, thus bringing more money into the fundraising program itself. This can be done with door to door sales of anything from chocolate bars, to wrapping paper or even magazine subscriptions.

As you can see, there are many options that can be utilized during church fundraising efforts. Whether only one option is decided on for the fundraising program or a few options, the successful outcome will undoubtedly allow the church the opportunity to reach the monetary goals that they had originally created, proving to be a great way to raising funds.
